Beloudj Rugs,

Living along the border with Afghanistan, the Baluch—a collective term for various nomadic tribes—have long woven carpets using wool of their own production. These nomadic tribes have traditionally sustained themselves through carpet weaving and livestock farming, and thus possess an intimate knowledge of their craft and the origins of all their materials.

The carpets are generally not very colorful, featuring rather understated designs. Dark hues—such as dark red, dark blue, black, and brown—dominate these pieces, which are characterized by geometric patterns. Most of these nomadic carpets are small in size, as they were originally woven for use within the nomads' own tents.
