Burma (Myanmar) – 1 Kyat “Peacock Rupee” 1852 (CS 1214) – Silver – Graded AU58
One of the most iconic and sought-after coins of Southeast Asian numismatics: the legendary Burmese Peacock Rupee, struck in 1852 under King Mindon Min at the Mandalay Mint.
Obverse: A magnificent peacock with fully displayed tail — the personal royal emblem of King Mindon Min — surrounded by Burmese script (“Tazeik Taw” / Royal Stamp).
Reverse: Denomination within a laurel wreath, with the outer legend reading “Yandabon Nepydiaw” (Mandalay, the Royal Residence) and date 1214 CS.
The dies and minting machinery were imported from Birmingham, England, resulting in exceptionally detailed, high-relief coinage. This example shows beautiful original patina with sharp design elements throughout.
Specifications:
• Year: 1852 (CS 1214)
• Denomination: 1 Kyat (Rupee)
• Metal: Silver, 91.67% fineness
• Weight: 11.4 g | Diameter: 31.0 mm

• Grade: AU58 (Bao Cui / CCGA graded, slab included)
A rare opportunity to acquire a historically significant 19th-century Asian silver coin in outstanding condition.
