Vom Verkäufer bereitgestellte Beschreibung
Created by Kyoto ceramic artist Fukuda Sho, this impressive octagonal display plate reflects the meeting of traditional Japanese pottery and classical ink-painting aesthetics.
Rather than treating the surface merely as a vessel, the artist transforms the entire interior into a sweeping landscape. Mountain peaks emerge from drifting mist, ancient pavilions rest among pine trees, and a small bridge leads the eye toward distant islands across an open expanse of water. The composition unfolds like a hand-painted scroll, inviting the viewer to travel through the scenery.
What makes this work particularly distinctive is the artist’s background. Fukuda Sho studied Kyoto ceramics under established masters before further training in traditional Japanese ink painting. This dual discipline is clearly visible in the confident brushwork and layered depth of the landscape, where ceramic decoration becomes a pictorial narrative rather than simple ornamentation.
The exterior walls are decorated with finely executed geometric patterns, creating a refined contrast to the expansive mountain scene within. The octagonal form further enhances the architectural quality of the piece, giving it a strong presence whether displayed in a tea room, alcove, or private collection.
The work is accompanied by its original signed wooden storage box (tomobako) and the artist’s biography sheet.
A fine example of contemporary Kyoto studio ceramics, combining painterly expression with traditional craftsmanship.
