Item Description:
橋詰正英 Hashizume Masahide (1959–)
This elegant sake bottle (tokkuri) is a fine example of contemporary Japanese ceramics, crafted by Hashizume Masahide, a distinguished Kyoto-based potter.
The piece features a beautifully rounded, egg-shaped body with a graceful narrow neck, finished in a luminous white porcelain glaze.
The exterior is adorned with an exquisite overglaze enamel painting of red plum blossoms (kōbai) — one of Japan's most beloved seasonal motifs, symbolizing perseverance, renewal, and the arrival of spring.
Each flower is rendered in deep crimson with delicate gold stamens, set against dramatic, cloud-like washes of deep brown and black that evoke the misty atmosphere of a winter landscape.
Pale lavender accents suggest fallen snow or distant blossoms, adding depth and poetry to the composition.
The piece bears the artist's seal on the base and comes with its original signed wooden storage box (tomobako), inscribed with the title "紅梅図徳利" (Kōbai-zu Tokkuri — Sake Bottle with Red Plum Blossom Motif) and the signature "正英作" (Created by Masahide) with his personal red seal.
This is a collectible work that would grace both a traditional Japanese interior and a contemporary display.

Artist Profile
橋詰正英 Hashizume Masahide (1959–) was born in Tateshina, Nagano Prefecture. He completed the graduate program in ceramics at the Tokyo University of the Arts, where he trained as a live-in apprentice for approximately seven years under Fujimoto Yoshimichi, a Living National Treasure and master of iro-e (overglaze enamel) porcelain. Hashizume is a full member of the Japan Kogei Association and has held solo exhibitions at prestigious venues including Nihonbashi Takashimaya and Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi. His work focuses on iro-e porcelain, characterised by refined overglaze enamel paintings of nature — most notably red and white plum blossoms, peonies, wild grapes, and birds such as varied tits and owls.
