14th Kakiemon Sakaida, 'Kiki‑tori’ Flower and Bird Vase, Ichirin‑sei, with Signed Box
This is a fine porcelain bud vase by Sakaida Kakiemon XIV (1934–2013), the 14th-generation head of the Kakiemon family and a Living National Treasure of Japan for overglaze enamel porcelain.
The vase is decorated in the classic Kakiemon style on a pure milky-white nigoshide body. Bright red and soft turquoise chrysanthemums are painted together with an elegant long‑tailed bird, leaving generous white space that gives the design a refined, airy feeling. This combination of vivid overglaze enamels on a luminous white ground is characteristic of the Kakiemon tradition, highly prized in Japan and abroad.
On the base it bears the blue underglaze signature “Kakiemon,” and it comes with the original signed wooden box (tomobako) with the artist’s inscription and red seal, guaranteeing its authenticity.
Though small in size, this ichirin‑sei bud vase has a strong presence. A single seasonal flower or branch will create an elegant focal point in a tokonoma alcove, tea room, or modern interior. It also stands beautifully on its own as a piece of contemporary Japanese porcelain art.
Condition: Vintage piece in very good condition, with no cracks, chips or repairs. Only minimal signs of age consistent with careful display.
A highly collectible work by one of Japan’s most celebrated porcelain masters, ideal for serious collectors of Japanese ceramics and for those seeking a refined accent for their home.
Sakaida Kakiemon XIV (1934–2013) was the 14th-generation head of the Kakiemon kiln in Arita, Kyushu. In 2001 he was designated a Living National Treasure for his mastery of overglaze enamel porcelain in the Kakiemon style.
His works are widely collected by museums and connoisseurs in Japan and overseas.
