Master Sound HM Half-Speed Mastering

Out Of Print And Extremely Hard To Find
To understand what the term “half-speed mastering” means, we first need to understand the basics of how a master record disc is cut during the mastering process.
To create a master record,in simple terms,a lacquer disk is placed on the cutting machine, which is called a master lathe.
The lathe cutting head engraves the source waveform into the paint.
Once completed, the Varnish Master Disc is used to create the stamp that will eventually be used to make vinyl records.
The whole process is highly skilled and requires a high level of accuracy. Half-speed mastering slows the whole process down to half the original speed. In other words,a typical record of 33 1/3 RPM will cut at 16 2/3 RPM.
The source material is also slowed down(lowering the pitch),which means the final recording will still sound normal when played back.
There are still many points that are responsible for improving the sound quality in the very complex and long production process, but essentially mastering at half speed leads to a superior sound recording that is both richer and fuller in the low to medium frequencies and softer in the upper range is.
The stereo image is greatly enhanced and the overall sound is focused and engaging. “Cutting at half speed means that information within the source recording at around 17 kHz is actually recorded at 8.5 kHz. So this is a long way from where the feedback runs out. This results in a more accurate and open high frequency response in the vinyl at half speed compared to recording at normal speed. ""
