An exceptional and culturally significant wooden eating fork, traditionally used for consuming sago-based foods, such as sago porridge and accompanying preparations. These utensils were part of everyday yet highly meaningful food rituals in the river and lowland cultures of New Guinea.

The fork is hand-carved from native hardwood, showing elegant simplicity and a strong functional aesthetic. Its worn surface and smooth patina testify to long use and careful handling over time.

According to provenance, this piece originates from the family of a village chief and was field-collected in 1999. Such provenance adds important cultural weight, as objects from chiefly households often carried both practical and symbolic status within the community.

Today, traditional sago-eating implements of this age and authenticity are increasingly rare, especially those with documented field provenance.
