History / Description
A visually striking Japanese viewing stone presented in the tradition of suiseki, featuring a dramatic mountain landscape form and a fitted wooden daiza.
Previously described as an Abe River stone (Abegawa-ishi), the stone displays a compact yet highly expressive silhouette formed by a series of distinct peaks, ridges and valleys.
The darker stone surface is crossed by contrasting pale mineral veining. These elegant lines evoke lingering snow in steep mountain crevices and beautifully emphasize the contours of the landscape.
The appearance changes noticeably when viewed from different angles, revealing new ridgelines and layered mountain formations. Despite its compact dimensions, the stone creates a remarkable sense of depth and distant scenery.
Collector Appeal
The strongest appeal of this viewing stone is its well-defined multi-peak mountain composition.
Rather than suggesting a single isolated summit, the form evokes an entire mountain range, with rising peaks, deep valleys and flowing ridgelines. The snow-like pale veining adds further visual drama and gives the landscape an atmospheric alpine character.
The fitted wooden daiza follows the irregular outline of the stone and provides an elegant dark frame for the composition.
A refined and highly decorative piece for a suiseki or viewing stone collection, tokonoma display, bonsai presentation, or Japanese-inspired interior.
Condition
Good condition with signs of previous display and handling.
The stone shows surface texture, mineral veining and natural-looking irregularities that contribute to its landscape character.
The fitted wooden daiza shows minor age-related wear and surface marks.
Please examine all photographs carefully. The images show the stone from multiple angles, as well as the underside and the fitted wooden base, and form an important part of the condition description.
