Vom Verkäufer bereitgestellte Beschreibung
Authentic bronze enkolpion cross reliquary from the Crusader period, 11th–13th century AD.
This is not an ordinary pectoral cross. It is a personal reliquary, created to hold a sacred particle or relic. Objects of this type were worn on the chest as signs of faith, protection and spiritual support.
The cross has an elongated medieval form with expanded arm terminals and consists of two ark-shaped halves. The upper part preserves the suspension loop. The object was made to be worn on the body, close to the heart.
The surface is covered with a dense natural patina, with green, dark and brown archaeological deposits. Traces of age, soil contact and long use are clearly visible. No modern cleaning. No restoration. Original archaeological condition preserved.
Enkolpions hold a special place among medieval Christian objects. They were not simply symbols of faith. They were made to carry a holy relic inside. For this reason, such a cross was understood as a form of personal protection, worn by its owner every day.
This is a small object with great inner force.
It belongs to a time when the road was dangerous, the land was often foreign, and faith became a person’s last support.
During the age of the Crusades, a man could travel far from home.
Across the sea.
Through foreign cities.
Along dusty roads.
Through fear and uncertainty.
At his belt, he could carry a sword.
But on his chest, he carried a cross.
The sword protected the body.
The cross was meant to guard the soul.
Inside the enkolpion there could be a tiny sacred relic. A particle of faith, hidden in bronze and pressed close to the heart.
Such a cross was not worn for beauty.
It was worn when the road had to be endured.
When a man had to remain himself.
When he needed a sign stronger than fear.
Centuries passed.
The swords disappeared.
The names were forgotten.
The roads faded away.
But the cross remained.
A small bronze reliquary,
still preserving the silence of the Middle Ages.
