A delightful and masterfully hand-carved boxwood "Katabori" netsuke depicting a clever Monkey (Saru) agilely maneuvering through a circular, segmented stalk of Bamboo. The piece exhibits wonderful movement and captures the expressive, curious face of the monkey. The reverse side features the authentic incised artist signature/mei: "Gyokusho" (玉松 - also read as Tamamatsu/Tamatatsu). In Japanese culture, monkeys are celebrated as symbols of cleverness, longevity, and protectors against bad luck, while bamboo represents strength and resilience.
