**Motoyuki Sakamoto – Inlaid Square Vase (Zogan Technique) with Original Wooden Box**

This striking square vase is a work by contemporary Japanese ceramic artist Sumi Sakamoto. Its sharply defined geometric form presents a sculptural presence, bringing a sense of quiet tension and refined elegance to any space.

The piece showcases the traditional *zogan* (inlay) technique, combined with a richly textured surface that highlights the natural character of the clay. The intricate, organic patterns create subtle variations of light and shadow, offering depth and visual interest from every angle.

Before pursuing ceramics, Sakamoto motoyuki(坂本 素行) worked as a car designer for Nissan, and his refined sense of form and balance is clearly reflected in his work. Since transitioning to ceramics, he has established a distinctive style centered on inlay techniques and has been recognized in numerous exhibitions, including the Japan Traditional Crafts Exhibition and international ceramic competitions such as Faenza.

Equally compelling as both a functional vase and a sculptural object, this piece harmonizes beautifully with both modern and traditional interiors.
