Endurance Without End is a contemporary artwork about perseverance, distance, and the courage to continue when the end is still far away.

A single figure walks a cracked path of light through absolute darkness. The body is bent, shaped by weight and exhaustion, yet still moving. The destination is visible. It is not close. That tension is what this work holds.

The image does not appear through paint or print. It emerges through controlled scratches in acrylic glass. As the light shifts, so does the figure. From one angle, the path blazes with clarity. From another, it retreats into the surface, almost disappearing. The viewer moves, and the work changes. The distance between presence and absence becomes part of the experience.

From across the room, it reads as a monumental composition, a single beam of light in boundless black. Standing closer, the surface reveals itself as a field of controlled surface damage, each mark a deliberate act of removal. No paint. No print. No ink. Only what has been taken away.

There is a symbolic resonance here that feels personal. The figure is not heroic in the way of triumph. It is heroic in the quieter, harder sense: continuing when the body says stop, when the end is visible but not yet reached. That particular kind of endurance has no dramatic gesture. It is simply one more step.

This work continues the Art with Scratch series by Tijs Dragtsma, in which imagery is constructed through controlled surface damage rather than pigment or print. A visual language where damage is not destruction, but structure.

Über Art with Scratch

Art with Scratch is a body of work in which the image is not drawn, but released. Carved line by line into a deep black surface, each work emerges through countless precise scratches that catch the light and bring form out of darkness.

From a distance, the image appears almost photographic. Powerful, recognisable and full of presence. Yet up close, the work dissolves into thousands of individual marks. Fine, fragile and almost weightless. What seemed solid reveals itself as a delicate web of lines, each one a deliberate gesture, each one essential to the whole.

Light is what gives this work its life. The black surface absorbs, while the scratched lines reflect. As light shifts across the surface, the image breathes. From one angle the figure stands clear and defined. From another it softens, recedes, almost disappears into the darkness from which it came. Under a focused spotlight, the contrast deepens and the image takes on a sculptural, almost luminous quality.

What makes this medium so compelling is its quiet tension. The act of scratching is direct and irreversible. Every line is a decision that cannot be undone. Yet the result is not harsh. It is intimate, atmospheric and alive with movement. Hardness becomes softness. Destruction becomes creation. Absence becomes presence.

In works such as this portrait, the figure is never fully fixed. Through the interplay of line, light and shadow, the image shifts with perspective and atmosphere. At certain moments, the subject seems to step forward out of the black. At others, it retreats, leaving only a whisper of form. It is within that movement, between visibility and disappearance, that the work comes alive.

Like all materials touched by time, the surface carries its own quiet life. Each scratch holds a moment, a breath, a gesture. Together they form not just an image, but a presence, one that continues to reveal itself with every change of light.

Mein Name ist Tijs Dragtsma, Gründer des TD Fine Art Studio.

Als Künstler treibt mich ein ständiges Verlangen an, neue visuelle Sprachen zu erforschen. Ich sehe Kunst nicht als festen Stil, sondern als sich entwickelndes Feld der Entdeckung, in dem Material, Struktur, Licht und Emotion zusammenkommen.

Meine Arbeit beginnt oft mit einer einfachen Frage. Wie kann ein Material auf neue Weise sprechen. Wie kann Härte Intimität werden. Wie kann Präzision Emotion schaffen. Diese Suche liegt dem Kern dessen zugrunde, was ich schaffe.

Innerhalb von TD Fine Art Studio wird jedes Werksfeld als eigene Welt behandelt, mit eigener Logik, Atmosphäre und visueller Identität. Einige Arbeiten entstehen durch Rhythmus, Wiederholung und Struktur. Andere entstehen durch Abwesenheit, Schatten, Reflexion oder Spannung. Was sie verbindet, ist das gemeinsame Engagement für Originalität, Klarheit und emotionale Gegenwart.

Ich bin von Kontrast fasziniert. Zwischen Stärke und Zerbrechlichkeit. Zwischen Kontrolle und Gefühl. Zwischen dem Sichtbaren und dem offenen Interpretationsraum. Mein Ziel ist nicht einfach, ein Bild zu machen, sondern ein Werk zu schaffen, das Aufmerksamkeit hält, zur Reflexion einlädt und sich im Laufe der Zeit weiter offenbart.

TD Fine Art Studio ist der Raum, in dem diese Erkundungen zusammenkommen. Es ist nicht nur ein Atelier, sondern ein sich entwickelndes künstlerisches Universum, geformt von Neugier, Präzision und dem Bestreben, Werke zu schaffen, die sich eigenständig, absichtlich und lebendig anfühlen.
