This is a Japanese tea ceremony chaire (thick tea caddy), made under the kiln name "Jisōan." The body is octagonal, a variation on the classic "eggplant-form" (nasunari) chaire, fitted with an ivory-white porcelain lid decorated with a blue-and-white key-fret border. The body is painted in underglaze blue with a scene of an elderly scholar standing amid pine trees and drifting clouds, rendered in loose, expressive brushwork evocative of literati painting; the lid bears a matching pine-and-crane motif, symbolizing nobility and longevity. The base carries a signature mark in a semi-cursive script. The piece retains its original paulownia wood box, inscribed with "Chaire," "Eggplant, Indigo Enamel," and "Cloud and Figure Motif," and stamped with the Jisōan seal — confirming clear provenance.
