I believe that contemporary Italian painting is still undervalued compared to the international scene: a widespread foreign taste often leads to seeking foreign artists, when authors like Cingolani possess a pictorial quality and historical relevance absolutely comparable to the best protagonists of the international scene.

Brief biography

Marco Cingolani (Como, 1961) is among the most important Italian contemporary painters. Moving to Milan at the end of the Seventies, he develops a research influenced by the post-punk culture, transforming images from current events and mass media into works with strong symbolic meaning.

A graduate of the Brera Academy, he tackles themes related to the history and society of Italy, such as the Moro case, the assassination attempt on John Paul II, power, politics and information. In the famous series of the Interviews and the Colors of Power, elements of contemporary communication become protagonists of a painting that is intense and reflective. In recent years he has also dedicated part of his research to spirituality and the sacred.

He has exhibited in important Italian museums and institutions, including the PAC in Milan, the GAMeC in Bergamo, Palazzo Strozzi in Florence and the Villa Guinigi Museum in Lucca, as well as a large retrospective organized by the city of Como.

His works are part of prestigious public and private collections. His market is considered stable and appreciated by collectors and critics, who recognize his ability to reinterpret contemporary history through an original and personal painting language.
