Citizen Bullhead Automatic Chronograph “Brad Pitt” – Cal. 8110A – Ref. 67-9143

The Citizen Bullhead is one of the most recognizable Japanese automatic chronographs of the 1970s. Its nickname comes from the unusual layout that places the chronograph pushers and crown at the top of the case, creating the appearance of a bull’s horns. The Ref. 67-9143 is a documented Bullhead variant powered by Citizen’s Calibre 8110A, with examples featuring the characteristic gold-tone dial, contrasting dark registers and 1970s cushion-shaped case.

The design gained a second life in popular culture through Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, where Brad Pitt’s character Cliff Booth wears a gold Citizen Bullhead-style Challenge Timer on a wide brown Bund strap.

Inside is Citizen’s impressive Calibre 8110A, a 23-jewel automatic chronograph movement featuring a flyback chronograph and day-date indication. Its technical specification combined with the unconventional case design has made the 8110 Bullhead family one of Citizen’s most collectible vintage chronographs.

This example captures that famous cinematic aesthetic particularly well, combining the gold-tone cushion case, champagne/gold dial, contrasting black chronograph registers, vivid orange chronograph hands and a wide brown Bund-style leather strap.
