Portugal, 1920er Jahre 5 Centavos Bronzemünze aus der Republik-Ära, Gewicht 7,94 g, ungeprüft, Auflage 114.000.
Vom Verkäufer bereitgestellte Beschreibung
Scarce Portuguese 5 Centavos dated 1920, issued during the period of the Portuguese First Republic (1910–1926).
The 1920 issue is particularly interesting due to its very low recorded mintage of only 114,000 pieces, making it considerably scarcer than the following 1921 issue, which had a mintage of over 5.9 million coins.
OBVERSE:
The Portuguese national coat of arms is prominently displayed over the armillary sphere, surrounded by a beaded border.
The design represents the national identity of the newly established Portuguese Republic and is characteristic of the small-denomination Republican coinage of the period.
REVERSE:
The denomination 5 CENTAVOS is displayed prominently in the centre.
Around it appears the legend:
REPUBLICA PORTUGUESA with the date 1920 below.
The coin has a simple but distinctive design typical of the bronze fractional coinage introduced during the First Republic.
HISTORICAL CONTEXT:
The coin was struck during the early years of the Portuguese First Republic, established in 1910.
The 5 Centavos was a small circulating denomination intended for everyday transactions. The 1920 issue is particularly notable for its low production of only 114,000 pieces, making it one of the scarcer dates of the type.
The subsequent 1921 issue had a dramatically higher production of approximately 5,916,000 pieces, highlighting the considerable difference in availability between the two dates.
