Vom Verkäufer bereitgestellte Beschreibung

Ancient huge funerary post from Bongo tribe, South Sudan.

Dimensions: width: 35 cm. Height: 146 cm. Depth: 27 cm. Weight: 27 kilos.

Estimated age: 1910.

Provenance and history of the piece:

collected on 1958 in Wau, Sudan, Bahr El Ghazal province, nowadays South Sudan, Western Bahr El Ghazal province, by comboni father Elvio Gostoli. This funerary post belonged to the group of funerary posts sited on the tomb of chief Molohi, chief of the Bussere Bongo, representing one of his warriors. Acquired by us with a bunch of other funerary posts from South Sudan and a group of Bongo stones from Elvio Gostoli himself on 2009.

Overall condition: the statue shows deep erosion due to many years of wind, strong sun, rain, white ants. The wood (mahogany) is very hard, solid and heavy. Minor cracks are located all over the surface, as well as many signs of erosion, but the statue is still well preserved and looks amazing. General wear is evident.

A professional invoice with a picture of the object, as well as the aforementioned description, will be delivered with the lot.
