Philistine Bichrome Ware Vessel – Iron Age I, ca. 1150–1000 BC – Ex Bonhams
Ancient Philistine bichrome pottery vessel dating to the Iron Age I period, approximately 1150–1000 BC.
The vessel has a rounded globular body with a distinct ring foot and a slightly flaring rim. It is decorated in the characteristic Philistine bichrome style, using dark brown to black and reddish-orange painted decoration over a light-coloured surface.
The decoration consists of horizontal bands and geometric motifs, including triangular and angular elements. This type of bichrome decoration is closely associated with Philistine pottery traditions of the southern Levant during the early Iron Age, combining local Canaanite ceramic traditions with strong Aegean influences.
Philistine Bichrome Ware represents one of the most distinctive ceramic groups of the early Iron Age in the Levant and is traditionally connected with the Philistine settlements of the coastal region.
