Miller, V. F. *Essays on Aryan Mythology in Relation to Ancient Culture*. Vol. 1 [and the only volume published]: *The Ashvins-Dioscuri*. Moscow: F. B. Miller’s Printing House, 1876. [4], IV, VIII, 356 pp. 25.5 × 17.5 cm. A copy printed on thick paper. This book is extremely rare on the antiquarian market.
Vsevolod Fyodorovich Miller (1848–1913) was a Russian scholar, folklorist, ethnographer, linguist, and archaeologist. He became a corresponding member of the St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences in December 1898. He is also known as one of the organizers of Oriental studies education in Russia.
Regarding the marriage customs of the Australian aboriginals in the vicinity of Sydney: "The unfortunate girl is abducted in the absence of her protectors. First, the abductor strikes her repeatedly and with great force—using a club or a wooden implement—on the head, the back of the neck, and the shoulders, until blood streams forth and the girl falls unconscious. She is then dragged roughly through the undergrowth, at the risk of having her arm dislocated at the joint. The suitor pays no heed whatsoever to the rocks or tree stumps encountered along the way; his sole objective is to convey his 'prey' to a safe location as quickly as possible. The girl’s relatives do not seek vengeance for this violation of their rights; instead, they retaliate in kind at the first available opportunity. This custom is so commonplace that even children imitate it in their games."
