Doll – Bisque Porcelain with Cloth Body – Germany – Late 19th Century (c. 1880–1900) This antique German bisque porcelain doll dates from the late 19th century, around 1880–1900, and represents the craftsmanship and charm of period dollmaking. The doll features a finely modelled bisque head with painted facial details, blonde moulded hair, and original hand-sewn cloth body and limbs, dressed in an early geometric patterned cotton costume. The reverse of the neck is incised with the number 3/9, a typical production mark of smaller German workshops of the era. Measuring approximately 24 cm in total length, the doll combines the delicacy of bisque porcelain with the rustic warmth of textile construction. Its condition is fair to good: there is visible age-related wear to the costume and light soiling to the fabric, but the bisque head remains intact without cracks or restorations, and the painted features retain their period charm. Dolls of this type were produced in Germany’s Thuringia region, particularly around Sonneberg and Waltershausen, which were global centres of doll manufacturing in the late 19th century. Today, such pieces are appreciated both by collectors of antique toys and by enthusiasts of European folk history, as they reflect the transition from artisanal to industrial toy production. This example can serve as a rare collectible, a study piece for doll historians, or an evocative decorative item for vintage interiors. Carefully packaged and shipped with track & trace. Do not miss the chance to acquire a genuine late 19th century German bisque porcelain doll.
