Vase - Bronze - China - Yuan (1271–1368) bis Ming-Dynastie (1368–1644).

A Chinese parcel-gilt bronze vase. Yuan (1271-1368) to Ming dynasty (1368-1644). The pear-shaped body rising from a stepped foot to a waisted neck and stepped mouth rim, twin loop handles surmounted by dragon heads issuing from either side. The body with parcel-gilt decoration of mountains, the neck with moons and clouds above, the mouth rim with parcel-gilt finish. The body has a warm, brownish patina which in combination with the parcel-gilt decoration works very well. Ref: Compare with a related parcel-gilt decorated vase, illustrated in Later Chinese Bronzes (Rose Kerr, 1990), p. 42. Also compare with vases of the same form, illustrated in Recasting the Past (Pengliang Lu, 2025), p. 46, p. 70, p. 80 and p. 101. Dimensions: Height 28 cm, diameter 11 cm. • General Condition: Good condition with possible old repairs. • Surface: Patina as expected; some oxidation and minor rubbing to the parcel-gilt surface.  o Repairs or restorations:   – Possible restoration to one of the handles, though it is difficult to determine whether it is a repair or part of the original manufacture. There is a difference in thickness at the start and end points of the loop handles where they attach to the body. This variation is not visible under UV light.   – Additionally, there is a small restored area (approx. 1 cm wide × 0.5 cm high) in the form of metal patination on the place where surface loss appears to have occurred. This surface loss is not visible on the inside of the vase. It is also uncertain whether this restoration is original to the piece or a later intervention. – Furthermore, there is a round-shaped area on the belly of the vase that shows a slight color variation compared to the surrounding surface. Once again, it is difficult to determine whether this is the result of a restoration or part of the original production process. Worldwide registered and insured shipping. #orientalistcollection
