Antikes Teakholz-Shiva-Kopf, handgeschnitzt, aus der Konkan-Region in Maharashtra, Indien. - Holz - Indien - 19. Jahrhundert
The meditative expression of Shiva head with eyes and a serene smile, is accentuated by faint traces of blue and yellow pigments, possibly remnants of ritualistic use.
Such heads were integral to rural households and small village shrines.
Fishermen and farmers, deeply rooted in Shaivism, would place these carvings in their homes or on boats, seeking Shiva’s blessings for safety and prosperity.
The natural grain ( resha ) and patina on the surface indicate over a century of exposure to Konkan’s salty air and monsoons, a process that takes 100+ years for teak to develop such patina naturally.
Dimensions: 9x5 inches. ca. 23 cm x 12,5 cm
