The drink is made from 130 different plants, (Alpine) herbs, and spices. The basis of all liqueurs is the elixir, still made according to the complex recipe the monks obtained in 1605, which was already considered very old at the time. Elixir comes from Arabic and means "philosopher's stone." Chartreuse liqueurs are among the most complex products in the world of beverages.
