Vase mit islamischer Schrift - Messing, Kupfer, Silber - Naher Osten - spätes 19. Jahrhundert
A stunning and authentic Qajar-era (late 19th century) brass vase, masterfully hand-engraved in the renowned ghalamzani. This elegant vessel features a classic baluster form with a flared mouth, narrow neck, and bulbous body resting on a slightly raised foot.
The surface is richly decorated with intricate arabesque cartouches containing flowing Arabic calligraphy—likely poetic verses or benedictions—interwoven with delicate floral and geometric motifs. Subtle silver inlays (original and intact) accentuate the engraved lines, creating a striking contrast against the warm, aged brass patina.
Condition:
Excellent antique condition with natural age-related patina. No dents, repairs, or restoration. Silver inlays fully preserved. Non-magnetic – confirming solid brass composition (copper-zinc alloy), as expected for high-quality metalwork of this period.
Provenance:
Private European collection; acquired in Lebanon, Beirut, 1970s.
Authenticity & Significance:
This piece exemplifies the pinnacle of Qajar metalcraft, where calligraphy, symmetry, and luxury converged in domestic art. Comparable examples are held in the Victoria & Albert Museum and the Museum of Islamic Art, Doha.
