Rare bronze cross of lily-shaped design, typical of Byzantine craftsmanship in the 11th–12th century.
Covered with a beautiful green patina, showing its great age and authenticity.
From a private European collection.
The lily-shaped ends symbolize purity and divine light. Such crosses were worn as pectoral pendants or hung in chapels as amulets of protection.
According to legend, similar crosses were given to Byzantine warriors before campaigns — as symbols of courage and reminders of heavenly guardianship. The lily form represents the union of spiritual power and noble spirit, while bronze was believed to embody eternal endurance.
Condition:
Very good for its age, with attractive natural patina. Unrestored.
