A very wide, striking wooden shop display cabinet 商店展示箪笥 (shôten tenji’dansu) in two sections, finished in a vibrant crimson red lacquer. Fully restored, cleaned, and waxed in Japan. The frame and side panels are crafted from precious Japanese hinoki cypress wood, while the front panels are made of keyaki (zelkova – Japanese oak). The entire cabinet is varnished in an attractive Shunkei-style red lacquer, still showcasing the beautiful natural grain of the wood. The upper section features two pairs of sliding doors, each fitted with glass panels. The lower section is configured with ten drawers in varying sizes and two pairs of sliding doors with keyaki panels, one pair also adorned with lattice work. The drawers are fitted with sturdy iron warabite-shaped bail handles. Period: Japan – Late Meiji period/Taishô period (First quarter 20th century).
