The exterior bears the character “Fuji” enclosed in a circle, symbolising the city’s name. The interior reveals a striking painted design of Mt. Fuji rising above swirling smoke and flames, accompanied by a heroic depiction of a matoi—the standard that served as the emblem for a firefighting brigade. The buckle of the accompanying belt is adorned with a cherry blossom motif, a symbol of courage, purity, and the transient beauty of life—qualities highly respected among firefighters. The Mt. Fuji motif represents strength, endurance, and divine protection, while the imagery of the matoi conveys bravery and communal duty. This jacket was made in a traditional manner, handwoven from thick cotton. It was designed to be soaked in water before use to provide protection from heat and fire. The piece shows signs of age, including wear, stains, fraying, small tears, and surface marks. Please refer to the photos for details. Dimensions: approx.
