Vol I: Frontispiece, [7], 188 pages, Vol II: [4], 172, [12] pages. 20cm x 16cm. Full leather binding with blind stamped borders on the boards, 3 raised bands on the spine, and marbled edges. Later German edition of this highly influential emblem book. Heavily illustrated with half page woodcuts throughout, as well as engraved head and tailpieces. Rubbing, bumping, scratching and wear to the boards and spine. There is some damage to both ends of the spine, and pieces of the leather are missing (see photos). There are also two green stickers with handwritten titles on the spine, which are quite damaged as well. Pen and pencil markings and inscriptions in the front endpapers. In the second volume there are some pagination errors, but the content is complete. The text and illustrations are clear, the paper is crisp, and the binding is solid. Overall and considering its age, a handsome copy in very good- condition.
