- Giltwood. The gilding work is antique, and of an outstanding quality. The back is not gilt, as its customary in authentic period pieces -it was intended not to be seen-. The two pieces we see are a pair of richly ornamented Solomonic columns or balusters, crafted from wood and covered with sumptuous gold leaf. Standing 72 cm tall, their size suggests they were integral and prominent elements of a larger ensemble, such as the side columns of an altarpiece, the pilasters of a tabernacle, or the ornate, turned legs of a finely crafted piece of furniture.
