Tlatilco Terracotta Figurine – 12th–6th Century BC – 45 × 38 × 20 mm – 42 g
This finely modeled terracotta figurine represents a stylized anthropomorphic face characteristic of the Tlatilco culture, one of the most important Preclassic traditions of Central Mexico. The facial features—prominent eyes, a broad nose, and a well-defined mouth—reflect the expressive and symbolic aesthetic typical of Tlatilco figurative art, where identity, ritual, and cosmology were emphasized over naturalistic realism.
The presence of perforations on the sides of the head indicates that the piece was likely intended for suspension, possibly worn as a pendant or used as a personal ritual object. The surface displays a stable archaeological patina with localized mineral encrustations and wear consistent with ancient burial conditions. Its compact scale suggests intimate ritual or personal use rather than public display.
