Commemorative Medal of Peter the Great – Capture of Narva (1704) Material: Tin Diameter: 46.7 mm Weight: 37.78 g Tin-Alloy Medal 1704 (later mintage, XVIII/XIX cent.) Traces of oxidation in the fields with some surface wear. Engraver’s initials “IK”. - in the sleeve edge. Described in Diakov as Copy by I. Konstantinov (И.Константинов) Diakov 21.17 similar obverse. R3. Extremely rare. The medal commemorates the storming and capture of Narva on August 9, 1704, during the Great Northern War. It is known that tin alloy medals were also used as diplomatic gifts. Rare historical medal depicting Tsar Peter I the Great (Peter Alexeyevich), issued to commemorate the Capture of Narva during the Great Northern War in 1704. Obverse: Bust of the Tsar with inscription PETRUS ALEXIEW D.G. RUSS. IMP. M. DUX MOSCOVIT. Reverse: City plan of Narva with inscription NARVA EXPUGNATA D.9.AUG.S.V. Very well preserved with sharp details and fully readable text. A collectible and historically important piece from the era of Peter the Gréta.
