Altägyptisch Bronze Gott Onuris. 11 cm H Spätzeit, 664 – 332 v. Chr.

Onuris God Figure. - very fine - Ancient Egypt, Late Period, 664 – 332 B.C. Bronze. 8 cm height and 10.5 cm with the stand. Condition: Good condition. Provenance: Vercamer collection in the family for 3 generations, brought by Monsieur Emile Vercamer (1846 - 1934), lawyer of the mixed court of Alexandria, who lived in Egypt around 1895. Attached documentation, copy of an old black and white photograph of Monsieur Vercamer and his wife at the foot of the statue of Ramses II and a statement on the honor of the descendants. Description: Onuris is a deity of Egyptian mythology, associated primarily with war, hunting and protection. He was known as the god who guided the gods and heroes in their combats and battles. His name, “Onuris”, comes from the Egyptian term “Anhur”, meaning “he who brings the enemies”, reflecting his combative nature and his role in military victories. Onuris was depicted as a man with a crown wearing two feathers, and was often shown holding a spear or bow, symbols of his hunting and fighting skills. In some representations, he also appears with a lion's head, which reinforces his warrior and protective character. In mythology, he was attributed the role of being the leader of the gods in battles against the enemies of Egypt, such as chaotic forces or evil creatures. The cult of Onuris was especially strong in the city of Hierakompolis, where he was venerated as the protector god of the city and the one who led the armies to victory. His presence in Egyptian mythology underlines the importance of war and protection in the worldview of the ancient Egyptians.
