Altes Ägypten, Spätzeit Blaues Fayence Pendant (Ohne Mindestpreis)
An Ancient Egyptian amulet pendant, made of a blue glazed faience, featuring an elongated triangular body, possibly representing a fruit. The obverse of the amulet is convex while the back is flat. There are two loop on both the top and bottom of the pendant for suspension. Signs of ageing such as discolouration, chips and pitting. One of the loops has been reattached with some glue residue still visible.
The Egyptians wore amulets alongside other pieces of jewellery. They were decorative, but also served a practical purpose, being considered to bestow power and protection upon the wearer. Many of the amulets have been found inside the wrappings of mummies, as they were used to prepare the deceased for the afterlife. Fist amulets were a particular feature of the 1st Intermediate Period, however examples have been found from New Kingdom and Late Period burials. The amulet was meant to bestow the power of dexterity and movement upon the wearer.
Measurements: (circa) H 2.4cm x W 1cm
Provenance: Ex. early 20th century UK collection
