It is recognized for its aromas of red and dark fruit—cherry, currant, blackberry, myrtle, and peach leaves—and a savory and mineral finish. Poggio al Granchio is influenced by nearby Monte Amiata and a more continental climate, warm but with significant temperature variations between day and night. The soils are characterized by galestro schist, typical of this side of the Denomination.
