Mesopotamien Terracotta Gefäß, 15 x 7 cm. EX-Pierre Bergé

This small vessel shows the diversity that the technique of pottery reached in Mesopotamia. These cultures, which were establishing themselves in different territories, made small pieces that they could transport with them. The afterlife was, for the Babylonians, a kingdom of shadows full of mud and dust. The dead suffered much thirst, which is why water was of great importance in the funerary or honorary offerings to the dead. That is why in the most elaborate tombs, jars and pots have been found to accompany the dead on their journey to the other side. Provenance: Pierre Bergé, Auction, Paris, 2006 (Lot No. 421); Ifergan Collection (2006-2021), Spain; Former Pablo H. Goizauskas Collection, Spain, 2021-2025 Statement seen by Catawiki.
