Glockenschrein - Bronze, Kleiner Bonshō, verziert mit Kanji und Löwenmotiven. - 1800-1850, 1750–1800, 1850-1900

It's a set of small temple bell with Chinese characters and lions carved into it, a wooden hanging stand, and a striker. The bell is thought to be 150 to 250 years old. It features Chinese characters, lions and the unevenness typical of a temple bell. The bell shows little wear for a bell of this era, which shows that it has been well cared for. When you strike the bell with the striker, it produces a beautiful sound. The stand may have been made at a later date, but the details are unknown. Bon bells, also called Tsurigane or O-kane, are found in Buddhist temples all over Japan. The large bells are used to invite monks to prayer and to mark time. The small bells are also called "assembly bells" and are struck 30 minutes or an hour before the start of a ceremony or memorial service as a signal for the congregation to gather. They are also struck 108 times, the same number as the number of earthly desires, to dispel worldly desires and welcome the new year with renewed feelings. Because of their loud sound, temple bells are also called "assembly bells" and "ho-kane." Bell Width 10.6 cm Depth 10.8 cm Height 18.7 cm Weight 720 g Stand Width 25.4 cm Depth 5.8 cm Height 26.5 cm Stick Height 21.0 cm Total Weight 930 g Condition: It is in good condition for its age. There is some rust, scratches, and scuffs here and there. I have included many photos, so please take a good look. Atention: The items listed for sale are all used collectibles. Please consider them to have signs of aging, such as stains, scratches, scuffs, tears, discoloration, fading, fraying, and changes in thread color. We will post as many photos as possible to make it easy to understand. As these are old items, we appreciate your understanding before making a purchase.
