DESCRIPTION: Wadjet, also known as Uto, was a significant goddess in ancient Egyptian mythology, particularly during the Late Period of ancient Egypt. She was often depicted as a cobra or as a woman with a cobra on her head, symbolizing protection and royalty. Wadjet was considered the patroness of Lower Egypt and was closely associated with the Nile Delta. In the Late Period, her role became even more prominent as she was seen as a protector of the pharaohs and the nation. Wadjet was believed to guard the king and his interests, ensuring the safety and prosperity of the land. Her image was commonly used in royal iconography, often appearing on the crowns of pharaohs, signifying their divine right to rule. Wadjet was also linked to the concept of the "Eye of Horus," representing protection, healing, and restoration.
