Fine binding, with frontispiece, folding map, full-page plates, and woodcut illustrations Layard was an English traveller, archaeologist, historian and diplomat. He is best known for uncovering a large proportion of the Assyrian palace reliefs in Nimrud and Nineveh. Layard sent several specimens to England which still forms the greater part of the collection of Assyrian antiquities in the British Museum. Published by John Murray, London, 1882. Publishers’ original full leather brown boards. Gilt borders, and gilt lettering and gilt vignette on upper board. Spine with five raised bands decorated in gilt, lettered in gilt on black label within compartments two. Marbled end papers pages and fore edges. Book Dimensions: 19 x 13 cm and Number of Pages: 384 including index Condition The book is beautifully bound, designed and illustrated. A well-preserved copy. Firm and well-bound. External covers are clean and in nice shape, with slight wear to the leather. Internally, in very good condition indeed. Old inscription with neat ink on top front free endpaper page. Pages are clean, with occasional light foxing marks on the margin of some pages. Inner hinges are very good. All pages are tightly held at the gutter. The fold out map is complete. All plates are clean and in nice condition (Excellent Copy & Nice Gift Idea!) (Please see pictures).
