Large Regency rosewood sarcophagus tea caddy with original cut-glass bowl - Teebehälter/-kasten (2) - Holz, Rosenholz

A fine Regency rosewood tea caddy in sarcophagus form, dating to around 1820. The exterior is veneered in attractively figured rosewood, displaying lively grain patterning and a warm, well-preserved surface. Larger than many examples of the period, it stands on turned bun feet and retains its original Rococo-style brass carrying handles to each side, which are crisply cast and of good weight. The lid is shaped with a raised, stepped panel, giving the piece the distinctive architectural silhouette associated with Regency design. To the front, a mother-of-pearl shield escutcheon offers a refined contrast to the deep, chocolate-brown tones of the veneer. Inside, the caddy contains two lidded tea compartments and the original hand-blown glass liner, distinguished by its gently tapering, ovoid profile and wheel-cut surface featuring stylised feather and starburst motifs. The liner sits within its original fitted recess, still lined in red textile, now softly faded and worn with time. Regency tea caddies of this form were designed for display in the drawing room and reflect the period’s fascination with exotic timbers and refined domestic ritual. 3284 g 33 cm wide 23 cm tall 18 cm deep The caddy presents beautifully overall, with a rich, well-aged surface and attractive grain. Minor age-related wear is present, including small scratches and marks to the veneer, some expected losses to the interior lining, and a few old, stable drying lines near the joins. The glass liner is well-preserved, showing only light rubbing to the foot from use. Overall, it remains in very good antique condition—structurally sound, complete, and ready to display or use. Please take time to view all photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the description and provide an accurate representation of the item’s details and condition. The shipping cost includes professional packaging, full insurance, and tracked delivery, ensuring the parcel reaches you safely and securely.
