The Brut Metodo Classico from Felsina is an elegant, fresh, and delicate sparkling wine produced in Castelnuovo Berardenga, in the Chianti Classico area of the province of Siena, Tuscany, where the landscape opens out to the horizon, Mount Amiata, and the view is breathtaking. It is made from a blend of grapes that sees Sangiovese, which predominates, blended with Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in a remarkable and well-balanced manner. The vines, located on hills over 300 meters above sea level, are cultivated organically, also using biodynamic preparations, on mixed soils rich in quartz sandstone, limestone, and silt. The winery, which owns more than 94 hectares of vineyards, was purchased in 1966 by Domenico Poggiali and is now managed by Giuseppe Mazzolin, a Latin and Greek professor originally from Venice. Out of love for his work, he decided to move to Tuscany and continue his founder's work, leading Felsina to achieve significant international recognition.
Felsina's Spumante Metodo Classico Brut is a non-vintage wine produced from hand-picked grapes, carefully selected at the point of perfect ripeness. The bunches are brought to the winery to be pressed directly and the must undergoes cold static decantation for several hours. This is followed by alcoholic fermentation, which takes place exclusively with indigenous yeasts in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks for several weeks. The resulting base wine is then added with reserve wine and liqueur de tirage to trigger secondary fermentation in the bottle, which lasts approximately 24 months. Once the maturation period on the lees is complete, the wine is disgorged and the liqueur d'expedition is added, with a dosage consistent with the Brut category. The sparkling wine then ages for a further three months in the bottle before being released for sale.
Felsina's Metodo Classico Spumante Brut displays a bright straw yellow color with light greenish highlights and a fine, persistent perlage. The nose reveals intense aromas of crisp and yellow fruit, including golden delicious apple and peach, along with floral notes of white flowers, and hints of pastry and bread crust. On the palate, it is clean, fresh, and vertical, characterized by a good savory finish and a long finish with aromatic aftertaste reminiscent of exotic fruit. This sparkling wine from Felsina is a well-crafted, youthful, and balanced wine, perfect for drinking quickly.
