The 1978 Petrus has never recaptured the exquisite bottle poured during the IMW vertical tasting in 2004. This one has light wild raspberry, leather, wild heather, chalk dust, and a touch of undergrowth. The palate is medium-bodied, with slightly rough tannins on the entry, square and masculine, with hints of green bell pepper towards the finish, which shows commendable weight. Some evolution, but not very rich. Not as overtly Right Bank as some other Petrus vintages, but very well-made.
