Paläolithisch Feuerstein Hand axe - 12 cm (Ohne mindestpreis)

Exceptional Prehistoric Flint Tool – Hand Axe / Heavy-Duty Scraper An impressive and robust flint artifact displaying multiple, well-defined negative flake scars across both faces. The geometry of the piece shows clear evidence of intentional shaping: a controlled striking platform, a repeatedly worked cutting edge, and a naturally fitting ergonomic grip. This makes the tool suitable for classification as a bifacial hand axe or heavy-duty scraper, typical for early stone-tool traditions. The object was discovered along the river terraces of the River Waal in the Netherlands, a region renowned for frequent Paleolithic finds released through centuries of water erosion. The natural patina and edge wear are consistent with long-term exposure in a fluvial environment. This is a substantial and visually striking example of early toolmaking, with strong collector appeal. Its bold form, massive weight and clear knapping patterns place it among the more impressive finds from the region. A distinctive and desirable collector’s piece that represents early human craftsmanship in its pure and powerful form. Provenance: Found in the Netherlands (river terrace gravels). Stone objects of this prehistoric type have been collected and held in private collections in the Netherlands since before 1999. This specific item was acquired directly by the current owner in 2024–2025, the Netherlands, and has since formed part of a private collection. From the private collection of H.L., the Netherlands. Legally obtained from publicly accessible river gravel deposits with no protected archaeological context. No excavation was carried out. No permit or authorization from the Cultural Heritage Agency of the Netherlands (RCE) is required for ownership or sale.
