Antique 18K Gold Cameo Imitation Pearl and Blue Enamel Pendant Antique French 18K gold cameo pendant featuring a finely carved maiden and lamb, framed with blue enamel and imitation pearls — hallmark eagle’s head, circa 1880–1900. Materials: 18K Gold (hallmarked eagle’s head, XRF tested), Shell Cameo, Imitation Pearl, Blue Enamel Total weight: 22.85 g Gold weight: approx. 11 g Dimensions: Total size (including bail): 71.9 × 53.0 × 8.8 mm Oval frame: 62.6 × 53.0 mm Cameo: 52.4 × 40.3 mm Condition: Good antique condition — some surface wear on imitation pearls, small enamel loss, and a light dent at the bottom of the frame. Two of eight cameo claws are missing, but the cameo remains securely set. (Please see all photos.) Craftsmanship Details This finely handcrafted cameo pendant showcases remarkable technical and artistic skill. The design features two 18K gold oval frames soldered together: The outer frame is hollow square tubing with a vivid royal blue enamel border. The inner frame is solid 18K gold with a soft undulating contour, perfectly harmonising with the cameo’s curvature. Between the two frames runs a row of imitation pearls, slightly worn from age but retaining their delicate shimmer. The cameo itself is intricately carved from natural layered shell, skillfully using its colour variation to create depth and contrast. The white upper layer depicts a classical maiden holding a lamb, gently placing a ribboned garland around its neck — a tender pastoral motif symbolising purity and innocence. Every detail — the woman’s soft expression, the folds of her robe, the lamb’s fleece, and the flowing ribbon — is executed with lifelike precision. Hallmarks: Eagle’s head French hallmark for 18K gold (visible on the inner frame, see photos). Style: Neoclassical Revival Era: Late 19th century (circa 1880–1900) Historical Context The late 19th century saw a resurgence of classical aesthetics inspired by Greco-Roman art. Cameos became fashionable among European aristocracy and were often mounted in enamelled gold frames with pearls or seed pearls, symbolising femininity and virtue. The present piece exemplifies this refined taste, combining masterful carving with the French tradition of enamel craftsmanship. This piece has been fully checked by our in-house jeweller & gemologist. Shipped tracked and insured from the Netherlands (within the European Union). You can expect to receive this item in 5 business days or less.
