Shinnyo-do Temple (真如堂) - Ido Masao 井堂雅夫 (1945-2016) - Japan (Ohne mindestpreis)

Item Description (English): This elegant woodblock-style print by Masao Ido (井堂雅夫) is titled "Shinnyo-dō Temple" (真如堂), a notable work from his Kyoto Hyakkei (京都百景) series, specifically within the Rakutō Jikkei (洛東十景) selection. The image presents a serene view of the temple grounds at Shinnyo-dō in Kyoto, with its iconic three-storied pagoda rising gracefully above lush green foliage. The soft, pastel hues of the evening sky create a tranquil backdrop, enhancing the peaceful atmosphere of the temple path, framed by stone lanterns and traditional architecture. Masao Ido captures the subtle harmony between nature and cultural heritage, using his refined technique and gentle palette to evoke a timeless Kyoto scene. Artist's Comment: Shinnyo-do Temple This Tendai sect temple in Shinnyo-cho, Sakyo Ward enshrines a statue of Amida Nyorai known as the “Nodding Amida.” Passing through the gate reveals a wide, gently sloping approach leading to the main hall. Beside the approach stands a gentle three-story pagoda. Late summer evening, the sky beginning to color gently illuminates the trees within the temple grounds. I began sketching, yet the scene changed moment by moment, leaving me with an indescribable feeling. Before I knew it, the sun had set, and the temple grounds were completely dark. Silence enveloped me. Size: Approximately 36 cm × 26 cm Artist Profile: Masao Ido (井堂雅夫, 1945–2016) was a distinguished Japanese printmaker known for his atmospheric landscapes and quiet depictions of traditional Japanese scenes. Born in Manchuria and based in Kyoto, Ido studied under Koho Nishikawa and developed a personal style marked by soft color gradations, clean lines, and serene compositions. His works, often portraying Kyoto’s temples, shrines, and streetscapes, are admired globally for their calm beauty and have been exhibited internationally. **PLEASE NOTE** Shipping Information: Items are shipped from Japan.
