Römisches Reich Blei Spiegel - 60 mm

Roman votive lead mirrors (very rare complete with glass still attached) popular from the 1st to 3rd century AD, were small, handheld objects known as "ex-votos." These mirrors were significant in Roman religious practices, often dedicated to deities like Venus and Juno. Crafted from lead, they featured ornate designs and inscriptions, reflecting the era's artistic flair. These mirrors were believed to have protective and symbolic powers, bringing good fortune, beauty, and fertility to their bearers. Typically circular or oval with a handle or loop, the reflective side showcased intricate engravings of mythological scenes or divine figures, while the reverse often bore inscriptions dedicating the mirror to a specific god or commemorating an important event.
