These small pottery vessels with spouts and often handles, similar but distinct from those used for oil lamps, contain residues suggesting that milk was a common contents. Although no artifacts with artificial nipples have been found, the design of these “baby bottles” and their use with young children indicates that they played a role in infant care, especially during weaning.
Provenance: Ex private German collection. Collected before the 1960s. After that bought by the Dutch collector L.V.; Jaspers' Antiques, 2020; Former Pablo H. Goizauskas Collection, Spain, 2025
