The Buddha raises his right hand in the gesture of reassurance (abhaya mudrā) and lowers his left in the gesture of compassion (varada mudrā), symbolising protection and benevolence. Dating from the early to mid-20th century, the figure displays the calm and meditative expression characteristic of Southeast Asian Buddhist art. The robe drapes elegantly over the left shoulder, leaving the right shoulder bare, a stylistic feature often seen in Thai and Burmese depictions. The hair is formed in tight curls with a prominent ushnisha, representing enlightenment. The double-layered lotus pedestal, symbolising purity rising above the world’s impurities, adds a strong sense of balance and spiritual harmony. The bronze surface has developed a natural dark patina with areas of green oxidation and mineral deposits, giving the sculpture an aged and dignified presence. A large vertical crack runs across the base, and smaller holes, surface losses, and traces of corrosion and green rust can also be observed. These age-related features do not affect the structural integrity but testify to the sculpture’s history and authenticity. Please refer to the photos for further details. Dimensions: approx.
