Elegant French mantel clock – Établissement de Paris, Model No. 892 – circa 1820

This beautiful French mantel clock has been standing the test of time for nearly 150 years — a true survivor from the late 19th century. Marked “Établissement de Paris” and numbered 892, it is a classic example of fine French design, blending boulle-style marquetry with a brass bezel, convex glass, and a porcelain dial featuring Roman numerals.

The mechanism is mechanical with an 8-day movement and was recently tested: it ticks and chimes and ran for approximately 12 hours before stopping, suggesting that a cleaning or adjustment is needed. Even so, it shows that the mechanism is intact and functional, which is rare for clocks of this age.

There is visible wear consistent with its long history: a crack on the left side of the case, a small chip in the glass cover, some wear to the glaze and wood, and a mark near the VI on the porcelain dial. These marks do not detract from its presence — if anything, they add to its story.

A wonderful mantel clock — a piece of 19th-century European heritage. Decorative, collectible, and full of character, it will make a striking addition to any interior.
