This Volkswagen ambulance is originally from Italy and was stored in a heated and dry location in the Netherlands for the past four years.

In the meantime, the "birth certificate" from Germany has come in and the Volkswagen Group Classic Parts lists the following specifications for this car. Volkswagen made a typing mistake on this certificate: 1977 should be 1967 of course.

The ambulance was stationed at a hospital in Bologna and later served in Rome. Copies of a number of photos are included.
All original equipment inside the ambulance is still there. This includes a stretcher, oxygen cylinders, heart-monitoring equipment, and a closet full of bandages, needles and everything that was used at the time this ambulance was in active service. 
Compared to how ambulances are equipped today, it seemed very Spartan back then.

The car is in good condition according to the inspection report drawn up on 19/12/2017. The inspection report is included. Some of the things it mentions are an update of the mechanics and a revision of the engine in December 2017. The mileage is 13,530 km. There is no noteworthy damage and there are no noteworthy aberrations, except for the right sill which needs some attention (welding).

The car comes with an Ex Works steering-wheel lock and several keys. The bodywork has been repainted at the time. The car has new tyres and 14 inch rims with new powder coating.
The car features original, double, blue flashing lights, a siren, and a light at the front with a red cross. All these things are in excellent and properly functioning condition.

This Volkswage ambulance is a true collector's item and it is in good condition.
According to the data, 27 vehicles of this type were built. A company called Miessen added the built-in equipment and the exterior ambulance characteristics. This was commissioned by Volkswagen Germany.

Some of these vehicles were active in the Netherlands at the time, but these are now lost. They may have succumbed to the influences of the weather and their own susceptibility to rust.

As far as I know, this is the only ambulance from its series which is currently still roadworthy; unless there is one in a museum somewhere. But we cannot say this with 100% certainty.
