Zweedse design hanglamp van Viktor Berndt voor Orrefors – mondgeblazen rookglas – ca. 1962-1965 – Mid-Century Scandinavian Modern

Beschrijving:

Een zeldzame en sculpturale design Graal Pendant met “Fossil” patroon, ontworpen door Viktor Berndt (1914-1994) voor Orrefors in Zweden, ca. 1962-1965. Een prachtig voorbeeld van Scandinavisch glaskunst-design uit de Mid-Century periode. De lamp is ontworpen door Wiktor Berndt (vaak vermeld als Viktor) tijdens zijn periode bij de Zweedse glasfabriek Orrefors, waar hij van 1956 tot 1974 de hoofdontwerper was. Berndt heeft inderdaad kort bij Orrefors gewerkt, en deze Orrefors Graal hanglamp komt van zijn hand.

De Pendant heeft een dubbelwandige Sommerso-achtige constructie met de buitenlaag helder glas met ingesloten organisch patroon. De Binnenzijde is volledig wit opaal (zeer typisch voor Orrefors-techniek, zelden bij Flygsfors pendels). 

Structuur in het glas patroon is een gecontroleerde ingesloten structuur (Orrefors graal-techniek variant). Het lijkt sterk op dezelfde decoratieve techniek die Berndt gebruikte bij zijn Orrefors objectglas begin jaren ’60. De montageplaat & slijprand met vlakgeslepen bovenzijde heeft een metalen ventilatieschijf is exact het type montage dat Orrefors gebruikte bij hun zwaardere studiopendels. Flygsfors gebruikte doorgaans eenvoudiger ophangingen zonder deze precisieslijping. Dit is studioglas-niveau dik en zwaar (meer Orrefors dan Flygsfors massaproductie).

De Pendant is vervaardigd uit mondgeblazen rookglas met een bijzondere gemarmerde structuur en subtiele luchtbel-insluitingen in het glas. Dit ambachtelijke oppervlak geeft de lamp een bijna fossiel / organische, steenachtige uitstraling, terwijl het glas tegelijkertijd warm en diffuus licht doorlaat. Overdag is het een kunstobject – ’s avonds een sfeervolle lichtbron.

Deze zeer verzamelwaardige elegante klokvormige of trompetvormige kap heeft royale afmetingen en vormt een echte blikvanger in elk interieur.

Dit type behoort tot de meer gezochte Orrefors-studioverlichting en ligt qua waarde doorgaans hoger dan Flygsfors pendels.
